Hydrogen Horizons

Left work a bit earlier today to do something quite nerdy, we went to a global robotics competition that was held in Singapore! It was so well-organized by FIRST Global, who devise an annual robotics game that simulates a clean energy process. 199 global teams were awarded match points for their robot’s ability to capture; separate and transport hydrogen and oxygen atoms, a multiplier was given for a complete, loss-less energy transfer and a coopertition bonus if global alliances could work together within a game.

In between matches, they had educational sessions by representatives from the DOE, Bezos Earth Fund and corporate sponsors like Schneider Electric, the boys had good fun in the pits with kind teens who took the ambassadorial job of explaining their machines really seriously. They cheered on China and India’s superb robots and their favourite teams were Argentina (cool flag) and Afghanistan (all-girl team). It’s such an inspiring experience for kids- I really liked the emphasis on making it a hopeful, positive, representative and inclusive science and cultural sharing. Do check out their website, social media page, game videos and live stream.
