Isle of Arran, Scotland

The New Caledonian sea ferries out to the Hebrides - guess who is the most excited about a ferry, just like in her book? I’d never actually seen cars go into a sea ferry before, the size of the open jaw hull is impressive. The gulls, the jellyfish, the azure blue waters and beating wind, washed down with a steak pie and cold milk, was a great experience. Funny conversation of the day: Pips quietly surveyed the surrounding, emerging islands from the deck then asked me, which one is Japan?

What is it about the light on islands and mountains? They have such godly shade and shadows. We spent a day climbing Goatfell and at an archery lesson that was a highlight for the boys. The Tudor architecture reminded me of Cameron Highlands, scone teas and Cupid fountains with black pots of fresh mussels. Highly recommend the old dame hotel, with its great location walking distance od the dock, cosy family rooms and fantastic food- Auchwynnie Resort, Isle of Arran.

What is it about the light on islands with cliffs and bluffs? They have such a godly shade and shadow. Dandelions are twice the fun with someone to share it with; Isle of Arran.
